FAQs

Why is the Golden State Rebates program closing?

After four successful years of helping California residents improve their energy efficiency, the Golden State Rebates (GSR) program will conclude it's retail offerings after July 31, 2026 and will not continue into 2027. This decision was made by the supporting utilities and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).

GSR is a statewide program funded by California utility customers and administered by SDG&E, with support from PG&E, SoCalGas, and SCE under the guidance of the CPUC.

Like many energy efficiency programs, GSR follows a planned lifecycle and is being sunset as part of the utilities’ and CPUC’s evolving priorities for future offerings.

How does the Golden State Rebates program closure impact the Clean Power Alliance $300 Instant AC rebate?

CPA's $300 Instant AC rebate for room air conditioners is still available to income-qualified CPA customers. The GSR program closure only impacts all other offers from Golden State Rebates for non-CPA customers.

Can I still redeem an unused Golden State Rebates coupon?

If you hold a $300 Instant AC coupon from Clean Power Alliance, you can redeem it as long as the program is still active.

If you hold any other Golden State Rebates coupon, you can redeem it through July 31, 2026. All coupons will be expired as of August 1st.
